The must-haves for Terrazzo Restoration:- Graduating grit sandpaper, from 30-grit to 120-grit.
- Assorted coarse diamond disks, ranging from 30- to 800-grit, for use with floor-grinding machine.
- Polyester stone adhesive and color-match marble chips, for patching holes.
- Electric floor-grinding machine with steel weights
- Angle grinder with diamond pad
- Plastic sheeting
- Sponge
- Polishing machine
- Electric chipping machine
- Masking tape
Doctor Terrazzo's Method :
- Mask lower portion of walls with plastic sheeting.
- Use coarse diamond segments bonded in a complex matrix to remove minor pits, blemishes, stains, or light coatings.
- Utilize increasingly finer grits of polishing discs until your floor has the desired look.
- Switch to the next-finer grit by observing floor surface and the amount of material being removed.
- Use angle grinder to smooth the floor around the edges of room.
- Patch any holes in the floor by first enlarging the holes with an electric chipping hammer.
- Also patch along all baseboards.
- Mix polyester stone adhesive with marble chips.
- Fill each hole with adhesive.
- Allow adhesive to harden, then diamond-grind each patch smooth using an angle grinder fitted with 30-grit sandpaper.
- Smooth patches again with higher grit sandpaper.
- Continue grinding floor with progressively finer grits of diamond disks.
- Remove a little weight each time you switch abrasives, and grind the final pass using appropriately-weighted disks.
- Doctor Terrazzo then seals the floor with a high-solids metal interlock sealant.. The sealant seeps into the porous concrete and becomes part of the concrete by molecularly bonding to the concrete.
